Ramsey Commissioners have expressed their public opposition to the proposed extension of the Tesco store in Douglas saying that it will seriously damage the retail sector in Douglas and other town centres in the Island.
The Commissioners have submitted a letter of objection to the planning application and at their January meeting were advised that the public hearing in relation to the application would be heard over two weeks between the 9th and 18th February, with retail matters being dealt with in the first week and traffic matters in the second. Appearances at the hearing are limited to interested parties.
Opposition to the proposal has also been submitted by the Isle of Man Chamber of Trade, the Ramsey Chamber of Commerce, Douglas Borough Council and a number of other local authorities, and the Douglas Development Partnership.
