The Marine Conservation Society, the Manx Wildlife Trust, the Beach Buddies, together with many other local groups and individuals have for several years been arranging for the cleaning of beaches around the Island.
For a variety of reasons, including the interests of shore-nesting birds, there is a concentration of beach cleaning from the third weekend of September onwards. Many local authorities are pro-active and supportive in the work done by volunteers. Ramsey Town Commissioners will by prior arrangement provide gloves and refuse sacks, and collect all the material removed from the beaches.
The Manx Wildlife Trust has made arrangements through Tower Insurance for all groups undertaking voluntary beach cleans to be covered by an insurance policy. All that organisers need to do in order to be covered by the policy is to agree to be bound by a Health & Safety Code based on MCS guidelines. It is then the simple matter of confirming the date and time of the beach clean with MWT.
Any persons or groups wishing to undertaken beach clean ups in Ramsey or elsewhere on the Island should contact the relavent local authority to obtain any support available, and the Manx Wildlife Trust to arrange for their event to be covered by liability insurance.
