The Commission has received enquiries regarding the overnight parking of goods vehicles following the Tynwald approval of new regulations made by government to restrict overnight parking.
The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1985 makes it an offence to, without reasonable excuse, cause or permit certain vehicles to wait on a restricted road on a Saturday or a Sunday; or before 7.00 a.m. or after 6.00 p.m. on any other day, except for the purpose of delivering goods or pick up or drop off passengers. This applies to any road in a town or village district and also to any road upon which a speed restriction is imposed.
In July 2012 the Department of Infrastructure made regulations to prescribe vehicles which the regulations relate to as including those with an overall length exceeding 6 metres or an overall height exceeding 2 metres.
