P B Quayle - Chairman of Ramesy Town Commissioners 1980-1981

We are very sorry to learn of the passing of Bert Quayle a former Chairman of Ramsey Town Commissioners.

Philip Bertram Quayle was a Member of the Ramsey Town Commission between 1977 until 1984.

First Elected November 1977 topping  the poll with 511 votes

He served that year as a member of the Health and Works Committee and the Housing Property and Estates Committee and as the Commission’s representative on the Society for the Preservation of the Manx Countryside.

In 1978 – he was elected as Chairman of the Housing Property and Estates Committee and so was a member of the Finance and General Purposes and Establishment Committees.

1979 – elected Deputy Chairman of the Board and again Chairman of the Housing Property and Estates Committee with automatic membership of the Finance and General Purposes and Establishment Committees.

Mr Quayle was re-elected unopposed in 1980 and the same year he was elected Chairman and was ex-officio member of all the Commission’s sub-Committees.

In 1981 / 82 Mr. Quayle Chaired the finance and General Purposes Committee and Establishment Committees

In 1983 / 84  Mr. Quayle returned to being Chairman of the Housing Property and Estates Committee.

The dates of the last two years of Mr. Quayle’s term of office merged into each other because the date of local authority elections was changed from November to the April – a move to avoid clashes with House of Keys Elections

Mr. Quayle is remembered fondly and we record our condolences to his family and friends in their sad loss.
